DicomLens

DicomLens – Privacy Policy

Effective date: 19 August 2026
Summary: DicomLens does not collect, store on servers, transmit, sell or share any personal data or medical images. All DICOM files you open stay on your device. The app has no accounts, no analytics SDKs and no advertising.

1. Who we are

DicomLens is an Android application for viewing DICOM medical images, published by its independent developer, Ali ("we", "us"). Contact: alik472@gmail.com.

2. Data we process

DicomLens processes DICOM files that you choose to import (from the system file picker, a folder, a ZIP archive, or a file shared from another app). These files may contain personal health information such as patient names, identifiers, dates of birth and medical images. This processing happens exclusively on your device:

3. Network access

The app requests the Internet permission for one optional feature only: "Download sample studies", which fetches publicly available, anonymised sample DICOM files from the open-source GDCM project (sourceforge.net) when you explicitly tap that button. No data about you is sent in that request beyond what any ordinary HTTP download requires (your IP address, handled by SourceForge under its own privacy policy). If you use the "Share image" feature, the image is handed to the app you pick via the Android share sheet and is then governed by that app's policy.

4. In-app review prompt

After you have used the viewer a few times the app may ask whether you like it. If you choose "Yes", the standard Google Play in-app review dialog is shown; this flow is operated by Google Play and is covered by Google's privacy policy. If you choose to send feedback, your e-mail app is opened with a pre-filled address; nothing is sent automatically.

5. Permissions

6. Data sharing, selling and retention

We do not share or sell any data, because we do not collect any. Files remain on your device until you delete them.

7. Children

DicomLens is intended for adults (healthcare professionals, students and patients reviewing their own imaging). It is not directed at children under 13.

8. Medical disclaimer

DicomLens is a general-purpose image viewer. It is not a medical device, is not cleared or approved by any regulatory authority (FDA, CE/MDR, etc.) and must not be used for primary diagnosis, treatment decisions or any clinical purpose. Measurements are approximate and depend on the metadata in the files.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; the current version is always available at this address with the effective date above.
